ZeniMax Union Statement
Quality assurance workers at Microsoft’s ZeniMax Studios voted to unionize on January 3, marking a substantial victory over one of America’s largest tech companies.
The following statement can be attributed to George Rakis, Executive Director for NextGen Competition:
Microsoft's successful ZeniMax Studio unionization is being heralded as a willingness to support more unionization in Big Tech, but what about persistent anti-union activities at Activision? As the public scrutiny of the proposed Microsoft/Activision merger continues, the ongoing union busting and significant cases of toxic workplace culture at Activision must be addressed. Unfortunately, all we have seen from Microsoft is a willingness to endorse these practices by offering Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick a golden parachute.
Big Tech companies like Microsoft continue to say, "trust us," while diverting policy makers' attention elsewhere. NextGen believes in "trust but verify.” That is why we demand that Microsoft addresses how they plan to support the desire for unionization by Activision workers and address Activision's toxic workplace culture.
